AMSHA – Successful surgery

Update Thursday 1 February 2018

I am so happy to share the news that Amsha has had a successful operation to remove her gall bladder.  The stone was huge and I am sure once Amsha has recovered from the operation she will be pain free.  Thanks to our friend Darya Mustafa, for being our man on the ground – organising transport, hospital tests and surgery.  This has been a great outcome and I am so happy that Operation Hope has been involved in this wonderful process.  Thank you once again to all our special donors.

Update: Sunday 28th January, 2018

We have been able to send USD400 to Iraq to fully fund the surgery, medication, checkups, tests, xray, food for 10 days in hospital and taxi back to the camp.  We are so thankful that Amsha can now have the life saving surgery she needs on Wednesday 31st January.  Doctors have given their time and skills FREE for this surgery.  Thank you to the kind and generous donors who made this life saving operation possible.

Update: Saturday 27th January, 2018

We are well on our way to funding this operation scheduled for next Wednesday 31st January.   We need USD150/AUD200 to reach our target.

Amsha is presently lying in her tent in Khazir camp near Mosul, suffering extreme pain from gall stones and urgently requires an operation to remove them.

Our team member in Erbil, Darya, has managed to organise FREE surgery for Amsha next week in a hospital in Erbil. But we need to urgently raise USD400 to cover the pre operation X-rays, tests and checkups, 2 meals a day in hospital for 10 days, medication following the surgery and a taxi fare to transport her back to the camp.

Please use the donate button on the Operation Hope cover page to help Amsha have the surgery she requires.

AHMAD – Operation successfully completed

Update Wednesday 24 January, 2018

Ahmad has had a successful operation that has immediately decreased the pain he was living with on a daily basis.  His family are very thankful to our donors for their kindness and support to allow this operation to occur.

Update Monday 22 January, 2018:

Funding for Ahmad’s operation has been promised from an overseas donor.  Once the funds are received we will remit to Darya Mustafa to allow Ahmad to have the surgery to remove the two hernias.  We are so thankful for the generosity of the donor that will change Ahmad’s quality of life.   Watch this space.

Update 16 January:

Ahmad is two years old, has two hernias, is in constant pain and is living in a tent at the Hassan Sham U2 camp 25 kms east of Mosul. Today he was transferred by our Operation Hope team member Darya Mustafa to a hospital in Erbil for checkups and tests prior to surgery.

Darya has managed to negotiate a discounted price for the surgery that Ahmad requires. Surgery will now cost USD500 but with extra for medication, checkups, food will cost USD550.  Ahmad’s condition remains serious but surgery cannot proceed until we raise the money from donations.

Please consider donating to this urgent surgery.  Please also share this case with your family and friends.

Thank you.

Pain medication

Update February, 2018

I have been assured by the Doctor in the Khazir camp that this patient has now been supplied with regular pain medication to help cope with the immense pain he has been experiencing.

This man sustained major damage to his humerous in an airstrike in Mosul. The shattered pieces of his bone were pinned together during surgery.

He is now living in a tent in one of the camps located 25kms east of Mosul. As he has no way to pay for pain medication, he has sold his food rations, clothes and mattress to fund medication.  He is left with the tent and two blankets in the middle winter.

Please donate to ensure that we can fund his pain medication until he requires surgery to remove the plates.

RAMI – second set of injections funded

Update 16 February, 2018

We are so grateful that the USD510 needed for the injections for Rami was donated in full.  Rami will be admitted to Nanakali hospital in Erbil and have the injections administered hopefully on Sunday 18 February.

Thank you to all our donors and to Darya Mustafa who is overseeing and coordinating the treatment and logistics for Rami.

Update 9 February, 2018

Rami’s condition has deteriorated and he is suffering immense pain once more.  His doctor has recommended one more course of 4 injections costing USD510 but to be administered as soon as possible.  In fact the Doctor would like the injections administered tomorrow Saturday 10 February in the Nanakali hospital in Erbil.  If you help out please make a donation as soon as possible.

Update 28  January, 2018

Donations have been received to fully cover the USD510 required to purchase injections for Rami.  Our friend Darya Mustafa is purchasing the 4 x Kogenate F3 injections today that will be administered to Rami in the camp by a doctor. Thank you so much for your donations, Rami’s condition had gone from urgent to critical.

Rami is an 11 year old boy who lives in the Hassan Sham U3 camp located 25kms east of Mosul. HeIMG_1575 has been referred by camp doctors to hospitals in Erbil four times  for injections of Kogenate F3 for his Haemophilia. Each time he has been returned to the camp because his family cannot afford the injections, which are urgently needed.

Our friend, Darya Mustafa has obtained quotes for the cost of the injections and they range from USD210 made in Turkey, USD350 made in Germany, USD145 – unknown country of origin – but these injections expire in one month.

Please donate for this urgent case.  Please share this post on your fb page and with friends and family.  Thank you.

YONIS – free surgery organised in Mosul

IMG_1580Update Monday 19 February:

News has been received that Yonis required two injections rather than surgery and is now recovering well in Mosul.

Update Monday 12 February:

Yonis moved out of the camp back to Mosul with his family last week.  In the meantime we have managed to get Yonis referred to a doctor in Mosul General Hospital who will do the necessary surgery for Yonis free of charge.  The diagnosis was Baghdad Bile or Leishmaniasis…..a type of parasite.

Many thanks to Darya Mustafa and Ahmed Frakhee, the pharmacist at the ADRA emergency field hospital, for coordinating the referral of Yonis to the right help in Mosul.

Yonis is a four year old boy living with his family in Khazir camp located 25kms east of Mosul.  His parents cannot afford to pay for any medical checkups, medication or surgery.

His medical condition is unknown.  He requires transportation to Erbil, checkup with a surgeon followed by surgery.  The costs are unknown until he has the checkup.

Our friend Darya Mustafa will organise the transportation to Erbil and all the checkups once we have gathered funds for the surgery.

Please help Yonis get the medical help he so urgently requires.  The featured photo was taken 10 days ago and his condition is deteriorating.

RAFAA – surgery completed

Rafaa is a 46 year old widow who lives in the Hassan Sham U3 camp located 25 miles east of Mosul. She has six dependent children , 2 girls and 4 boys. She was recently transported to a hospital in Erbil and after taking tests and xrays it was decided that she required surgery for axillary clearance.  When undertaking the surgery it would be decided if she would require a mastectomy.

IMG_1573 2Our friend, Darya Mustafa is case manager for Rafaa and advised us of the need for USD1200 (heavily discounted) to fund this operation.

We have just remitted these funds and the operation was performed within 2 hours of our funding.  The operation was successful – Rafaa required a mastectomy.

Darya had already organised extra fuel and food for Rafaa’s children who are in the camp under the care of their neighbour.

Funds raised through the ‘Appeal for Ali’ were utilised for this operation.  Thank you to all who contributed.
