There is good news to share from our partners in Gaza.

This week, the dedicated team from Refugee, Biriyani and Bananas (RBB) was able to purchase, prepare and distribute food to families facing extreme hardship in Northern Gaza.

Working under extraordinarily difficult and dangerous conditions, a trusted team of local volunteers purchased chickens, fruit and vegetables and prepared 310 family food parcels. Each parcel contains enough food for approximately five adults — providing essential assistance to around 1,550 people.

For families who have lost so much, receiving a parcel of fresh food can mean more than simply having something to eat. It can provide a moment of relief, dignity and reassurance in circumstances where even the most basic necessities have become increasingly difficult to obtain.

Reaching Those Most in Need

The food parcels were distributed to families living in a camp for refugees and displaced people in Northern Gaza, an area where humanitarian needs are immense.

Very few NGOs and charitable organisations are able to operate in parts of Northern Gaza because of the proximity to the border, ongoing military activity and extremely dangerous conditions. As a result, many families have limited access to humanitarian assistance.

Food insecurity continues to be a devastating reality. Families are struggling to find enough food, while many have exhausted their savings and have no money left to purchase even basic necessities.

This is why these distributions matter.

They bring food directly to families who may otherwise go without.

Courageous Volunteers, Essential Work

We are deeply grateful to the RBB team in Gaza and the courageous local volunteers who make these distributions possible.

They undertake this work in extraordinarily dangerous circumstances, putting themselves at risk each day to reach vulnerable families and deliver food where it is needed most.

The photographs below provide a glimpse of their work and of the families receiving this much-needed assistance.

$100,000 Raised Since March 2024

Since March 2024, Operation Hope Australia has raised A$100,000 to support food distributions in Gaza.

Every contribution has helped make these distributions possible — and every food parcel represents a family that has received practical, immediate assistance during an incredibly difficult time.

We remain committed to continuing this work for as long as we are able, prioritising those facing the greatest hardship, including families living in poverty, people with disabilities, children, older people, widows and orphans.

Thank You

To everyone who has donated, shared our appeals, encouraged others to support this work or simply stood alongside us — thank you.

Your compassion and generosity have enabled us to keep delivering food to families who desperately need it.

We do not take your trust lightly. Operation Hope Australia is committed to undertaking due diligence in selecting our humanitarian partners, and we are grateful to work alongside Refugee, Biriyani and Bananas, an organisation with 10 years of experience supporting refugees and displaced communities in Greece, Syria, Iraq, France and Sudan.

Together, we are helping put food on the tables of families who are facing unimaginable circumstances.

Thank you for helping us continue.
